Interesting Locations in the Suburb of Wilmette

Of all of Wilmette’s beautiful architecture, one of the must-sees is the Baha’i House of Worship (pictured above). The beautiful building is 9-sided, made of quartz and white cement, with a domed roof. As the only Baha’i House of Worship in North America, it also houses the administrative offices of the Baha’i National Spiritual Assembly. With no fee to enter, the building is open to anyone who wishes to visit.

Other buildings that deserve a look include the First Congregational Church, a Tudor Revival style; Trinity United Methodist Church, a Neo-Gothic style; St. Joseph’s Art Deco designed church; and two Frank Lloyd Wright designed homes—the Frank J. Baker House, which includes a carriage house, and the Lewis Burleigh House, also known as the J.J. O’Connor House.

Besides buildings, Wilmette has some great outside spaces. Gibson Park has beach access, a marina, and Dog Beach, an off-leash area for the family pet. It also hosts a public theater, the Wallace Bowl, that performs throughout the summer. There are grills built-in around the park for picnics, as well as, tennis courts, beach volleyball, and soccer. If you’re not into swimming at the beach, Centennial Park has a public swimming pool, plus tennis and ice-skating facilities.
