Interesting Spots to Visit in the Suburb of River Forest

River Forest is a beautiful and affluent suburb that has a number of intriguing sites. Chief among them is the Winslow House (as seen above) which was designed by the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright. It is considered as Wright’s first independent commission and he used it to demonstrate his ideas that would redefine the profession. The house is unlike all the other residential structures of that era, emphasizing horizontal lines, having a low and wide roof, and using a limestone base as visual anchor.

There is also an established historic district that contains about 860 properties that were designed by other notable architects such as E.E. Roberts, Spencer and Powers, William Drummond, and their peers. The styles include Modern, art Deco, Buurma Built, Tudor Revival, Prairie School, Victoria, Bungalows, and Gothic Revival. They can be found between Harlem Avenue and Des Plaines River, as well between Division Street and Washington Boulevard.

Other notable places include the two most prominent local schools, Dominican University and Concordia University Chicago. There is also a train station that is part of the Metra West Line. The River Forest Park District has excellent facilities for active people including soccer fields, baseball fields, tennis courts, climbing walls, and walking paths.
