Interesting Locations in the Suburb of Lombard

The First Church of Lombard (pictured above), also known as the Maple Street Chapel, is a historical Gothic Revival church in Lombard, Illinois. Built in 1870, the church served as the village’s first town hall and library. For the first fifty years, the south room functioned as a free public library of books from Josial Torrey Reade, a former student of Amherst College. The first Lombard kindergarten class was held in the church. A second library opened in the building in 1927 by Civil War telegrapher Col. William R. Plum. The bell tower called parishioners to service and also functioned as the town fire alarm.

Dr. William LeRoy built a home in the Italianate style on Lombard’s Main Street in 1881. Dr. LeRoy specialized in making artificial limbs for civil war veterans and lived in this house until 1900. The house (often called the Little Orphan Annie House) would eventually become the home of Harold Gray’s parents and the studio of Harold Gray, the originator of Little Orphan Annie cartoon strip

For a change of pace, many residents like to enjoy a quiet afternoon in Lombard’s public library, whose hours are:

Monday – Friday 9:00 – 9:00
Saturday 9:00 – 5:00
Sunday 1:00 – 5:00

We have taken several limousine services over the years, and Echo Limousine is one of the best. They were very professional, arrived early for pickup going to O'Hare, and very prompt on our return trip home from O'Hare. The drivers were pleasant, as well as professional, and the Town Car was very clean."— Jay G. - South Holland, ILRead All Testimonials
