Interesting Spots to Visit in the Suburb of Maywood

Located in the Proviso Township in Illinois is the village known as Maywood. Other than the fact that Maywood is historically important due to an armory that was there in the early 1900s, this village is well known for having a great many historical homes. It is in fact one of the places listed on the National Registry of Historic Place, with 16 different properties and homes from that list within its boundaries. The homes that can be seen here are over a century old and in a mostly unaltered condition.

Where the Loyola University Medical Center (as seen above) now sits, there was once an airport that Charles Lindbergh used during his airmail pilot days. Although there has been consolidation of this place known as Checkerboard Field, many things can be seen to show where it once stood. Although the airport itself no longer stands, it has been taken over by a beautiful forest preserve meadow.

Barney Oldfield, a famous race car driver, used to drive on a famous racetrack in the area where the Hines Veterans Hospital now sits. Some lakes in the area that are also of interest to many people visiting Maywood are Lake O’hare and Lake Park, both of which feature historical importance to the area.
